Rosa Rugosa (Hamanasu in Japanese) is a kind of pink rose and used in many products such as jam, tea, fragrance, and even medicines. Before the Great East Japan Earthquake, rosa rugosa was found along the 1.3 km long beach in Nebama, however, the tsunami destroyed the beach, and with it, many beach plants. Local residents began restoring the beach plants in hopes to have the beach filled with rosa rugosa again. On April 16, partner organizations, local residents and businesses, and outside visitors are coming together for planting.

This project is funded by L’Occitane through Civic Force’s NPO Partner Project.

What is the Nebama Hamanasu Project?

Launched in 2021, the project aims to restore rosa rugosa in the area and contribute to creating a sustainable community in Nebama.
