As of October 16, 2019, approximately 4,500 people in 13 prefectures have been forced out of their homes due to the heavy rains and are staying at evacuation centers. In Fukushima and Nagano Prefectures, there are as many as 1,762 and 1,081 evacuees, respectively, with no end in sight.

The emergency assistance team not only conducted needs assessments in Nagano, but also gathered information from evacuation centers in Obuse-machi and Suzaka-shi since October 16. Based on the needs assessments, the team has been distributing relief items such as tissues, toilet paper, lanterns, and clothing for the cold weather.

Today, the team conducted a needs assessment in Soma-shi, Fukushima Prefecture, which is experiencing a water outage, and delivered portable water containers. The details on these relief item distributions will be available soon.
