【Typhoon No.19】Three Weeks Since the Disaster ― Updates on Assistance Activities

Typhoon No.19 (Hagibis) swept through the Tohoku, Kanto, and Tohoku regions from October 12-13 and caused immense damage including floods and landslides. Civic Force has been providing emergency assistance activities since the onset of the disaster with partner organizations, Peace Winds Japan and A-PAD Japan. The details of the assistance activities are available in the latest report below (Japanese only). We welcome your comments and suggestions.

84,383 houses have been completely or partially destroyed and flooded due to the storm. 661 landslides have been reported in 20 prefectures as of October 30. Because the damage was so widespread, the extent of damage has been difficult to determine. CF is facing tough decisions to prioritize assistance activities. At the same time, grassroots support networks born out of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Kumamoto Earthquake in 2016, and West Japan Floods in 2018 have been growing ever since. As Japan experiences more frequent natural disasters, a number of victims are also increasing and it is inevitable that such networks are being created.
Civic Force is currently working with NPOs experienced in disaster recovery and reconstruction assistance and striving to provide more effective and efficient disaster relief assistance. The people affected by the disaster have a long way to resettle down. Cold winter is imminent and the countermeasure is now needed. We appreciate your continued support to assist the affected people.
