COVID-19 Response ProvidingReliefItems ActivityReport

1,000kg of Medical Relief Items Transported to Wuhan on February 5

In response to the new coronavirus outbreak, Airborne Rescue & Relief Operations With Search (ARROWS), comprised of Civic Force and other partner organizations, will transport 1,000kg of additional medical relief items to China on February 5.

Those relief items include protective suits against infectious diseases, medical masks, long boots, and gloves. ARROWS is also transporting medical equipment that is running low in China such as blood collection kits, cottons, sterile pipettes, and bandages. Those items were part of a stockpile stored at Saga Airport by A-PAD to take measures against infectious diseases. Town Tara Hospital of Saga, Japan also donated 580 medical relief kits (protective suits, masks, eye masks, gloves and foot covers).

ARROWS learned about the assistance request sent by the city of Dalian, China to its sister city, Imari-shi, Japan and donated 200 sets of protective suits to Dalian. Those items will be transported on a freight flight to Dalian together with other relief items compiled by Kitakyushu-shi, Japan.

On February 5, a member of ARROWS will transport relief items from Saga to Shanghai on Spring Airlines. After arriving in Shanghai, ARROWS will deliver those items to Wuhan through partner organizations, the International Health Welfare Institute and Rum Union.

ARROWS has dispatched two staff members from Japan since January 28 and delivered medical relief items to a hospital in Shanghai. A doctor there warmly greeted our staff saying, "We would like to thank the people of Japan. Medical professionals working at the frontline will be saved by those protective items." One of the staff members has since returned to Japan. He reported to an airport quarantine station upon arrival with no symptoms of the virus and a consultation with a doctor confirmed no fever or upper respiratory symptoms. It was determined that he has a low risk of infection and he has entered a two-week observation period at home. Under the guidance of two doctors based in Japan, the assistance activities are carried out with strict hygiene management to avoid infection.
