【Kanto Heavy Rain 2026】 Heavy Rain in Tokyo Area - Gathering Information

On August 13, 2026, heavy rain hit Chiba Prefecture resulting in intermittent torrential rain and a record-breaking 24-hour rainfall. This led to the issuance of the nation's first level 5 heavy rain special warning. The record-breaking heavy rain that continued from the afternoon of August 13 caused road flooding in various locations, and many people were stranded at Narita Airport, where transportation services were suspended, leaving approximately 7,000 people stranded and unable to return home.

According to reports, as of 1:00 PM on August 14, at least six people had died. More than 3,800 people were staying in temporary shelters and over 7,300 people had evacuated to local government shelters as of early Friday morning. Many houses were also severely damaged by flooding.

Although highest level emergency levels were downgraded in Chiba Prefecture, the actual emergency has expanded significantly, prompting local government to extend the Disaster Relief Act to 25 municipalities as widespread destruction becomes clear.

Heavily saturated soil and swollen rivers continue to pose an immediate risk of landslides and flash flooding across Chiba, leaving countless residents in precarious conditions.

Civic Force will continue gathering information to assess needs on the ground.
