【Tonga Volcano Eruption】 Gathering Information

2022.01.16 Expand to Asia

Around 1:50PM (local time) on January 15, 2022, the massive undersea Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha’apai volcano erupted and triggered tsunami waves of over 1 meter high. Strong currents and high waves are expected and local residents are advised to evacuate to higher grounds.

In Japan, tsunami warnings have been issued across Japan including Hokkaido, Iwate, and Okinawa Prefectures.
