【Kumamoto Earthquake 2026】 3 Months Passed - NPO Partner Projects with 4 Organizations
While the impacted areas may appear to have passed the emergency phase due to the progress of temporary housing construction and the closure and consolidation of evacuation centers, some people still face a severe shortage of water. Water supply facilities and wells are damaged and no water comes out of their taps. In some areas, local souvenir stores and shopping streets have been unable to reopen, and the local economy is in crisis.

Through four NPO Partner Projects, Civic Force continues to focus on providing support to fill the gaps that government assistance alone cannot reach in disaster-stricken areas where numerous challenges remain. As of October 2026, Civic Force has collaborative projects with four organizations underway.
Two organizations continue to assist with the removal and cleanup of damaged houses and the coordination of volunteer dispatch in Yatsushiro City, Uki City, Hikawa Town, and other areas. They place particular emphasis on supporting single mothers, people with disabilities, and the elderly. Leveraging their existing connections and experience, our partners carefully listen to the individual needs of each resident and respond flexibly to their requests.

Kumamoto University's student volunteer group, Kumasuke-gumi, conducts individual visits to areas in Kumamoto City where support is insufficient, assisting with activities such as removing furniture from damaged homes, cleaning, and helping with mud removal and cleanup. Utilizing the unique network and mobility of students, they are maintaining and developing their support system with student volunteers from outside the prefecture.

Disaster-preparedness leaders’ network originated from the Women's Forum Kumamoto, an organization focusing on creating safe spaces for women and children, is holding community salons for women and families with children once a month. In addition to acting as a bridge for relief supplies and volunteers from all over the country, they also distribute self-maintenance sheets to prevent burnout among support workers.
In addition, the NPO Sonaetoko in Kumamoto dispatches supporters and is holding foot bath salons in evacuation centers and community centers in Yatsushiro City. They play a role in listening to the problems of each individual and connecting them with the necessary support.
