【Noto Peninsula Earthquake】 Day 4 - Team Continues Providing Relief Items, Medical Assistance, and SAR Operations

Four days after the powerful earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture the emergency team is continuing working in Suzu City.

Home to 14,000 residents, more than 70% of the Suzu residents have been evacuated across 50 evacuation centers (as of January 4, 2024). Access to clean water and sanitation is an urgent need. In response, Civic Force’s joint emergency team, ARROWS, has opened mobile medical clinics in some of the evacuation centers and supporting hygiene management.

Today, the team installed water supply systems from a corporate partner and portable toilets will be distributed tomorrow.

Access to the affected areas has been a challenge due to road ruptures. In order to deliver relief items efficiently, the team set up a relief item drop-off and pick-up point in a nearby town. From there the team will deliver the supplies using lightweight vehicles.

Search and Rescue Operations

The death toll continues to rise as search-and-rescue (SAR) operations persist. According to Ishikawa Prefecture, nearly 100 people have been confirmed dead as of January 4, 2024. The SAR team continued searching for survivors under the rubble today with no success, but the team continues on with hope.

Patient Transfer via Helicopter

The medical team treated patients at the mobile clinics at evacuation centers and also made in-home visits. With a lack of medicines, water and power outages, and the harsh winter cold the situation is dire for the elderly.
