【Noto Peninsula Earthquake】 Mattresses Donated to Evacuation Center in Suzu

More than 10,000 people are still unable to go home even after a month and a half since the disaster.

As a member of ARROWS, Civic Force is providing emergency assistance with local aid organizations. In particular, we are working hard to quickly deliver supplies that meet the needs of people living in evacuation centers or at home, and we are also focusing on eliminating disparities in support.

On February 16, Civic Force delivered mattresses to the evacuation center at Wakayama Elementary School in Suzu City, where approximately 50 people were staying. At the evacuation center, the evacuees were still sleeping on cardboard beds with cushions and silver mats. ARROWS and a team of public health nurses from Suzu City proposed to provide mattresses for their comfort. When Civic Force handed out mattresses delivered from an Amazon warehouse in a nearby city, the evacuees promptly tested the beds.

“We were sleeping on hard cardboard. This is very helpful.”

“I can sleep comfortably like on a hotel bed. Thank you.”

In addition, ARROWS continues to listen to those affected by the disaster several times a week at the entrance of the public bath, Amida-yu, and provide supplies that meet their needs. In early February, we handed out face towels, food, and beverages.

These goods were donated through Disaster Relief Hub, Amazon’s disaster assistance program. Civic Force has been partnering with Amazon since 2022.

Since the evacuees had been wearing shoes inside the evacuation center, there was concern about the risk of infection from dirt coming in from outside. ARROWS worked with them to clean, establish a no-shoes rule, and provide slippers.

Civic Force continues to provide necessary support to those in need and improve the lives of the impacted residents.
