News Letter Vol.33 is Now Available -More than Six Months since Noto Peninsula Earthquake
More than half a year has passed since the Noto Peninsula Earthquake occurred on January 1, 2024. However, there still are some areas where the path to recovery is not visible at all as restoration of water supply and demolition of damaged buildings are delayed. In May, an elderly person living alone in a temporary house died, showing that the risk of disaster-related deaths is still high. Through the NPO Partner Project and the activities for relief goods support, Civic Force has been focusing on supportive efforts for preventing the isolation of affected people and disaster-related deaths.
In May and July, Civic Force exhibited at events held in Chiba and Tochigi Prefectures and conducted awareness-raising activities focusing on support to Noto and preparation for disasters that may occur this summer. In June, Civic Force signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Takeo City, Saga Prefecture, on relief goods supply and the use of facilities in times of disaster, and also visited a private disaster medical organization in Taiwan. We have been working to establish a cooperative system across countries and organizations in preparation for the coming flood season when people are on high alert.
This newsletter reports on our disaster preparation efforts and focuses on our recovery and reconstruction supporting activities.
