【August 2025 Heavy Rain】 Support Continues in Affected Areas

In August 2025, a historic heavy rain event struck primarily affecting Kumamoto, Fukuoka, Yamaguchi, and Kagoshima Prefectures. The heavy rains led to a series of landslides, river flooding, and inundation across various areas. Immediately following the disaster, Civic Force collected information in Kumamoto Prefecture, the area with the most significant damage, and quickly delivered relief supplies tailored to the needs of the affected regions.

Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture, became the most heavily affected area in the prefecture. As of September 25, according to the Kumamoto Prefectural government, one person died, 699 houses were completely or severely damaged, and 1,299 houses were flooded above floor level.

A month and a half after the disaster, 26 people are still sheltering at the Chō community center, where they are forced to live in difficult conditions (as of September 29). To combat the humidity, three futon dryers were delivered on September 29, utilizing the "Players' Fund" of the Japan Professional Baseball Players Association (JPBPA). Last month, fifty circulators were provided to the Yatsushiro City Volunteer Center to help dry the wood of water-damaged homes.

In Yatsushiro City, Civic Force also delivered vegetable juice to evacuation centers in response to the city's immediate need for nutritional variety, as the meals mainly consisted of bento boxes. Additionally, high-pressure washers, necessary for cleaning out damaged homes, and drinks for the volunteers working in the scorching heat were delivered to the Volunteer Center.

Given the widespread nature of the heavy rain damage, assistance was also provided to Amakusa, Tamana, and Gyokutō towns immediately after the disaster's onset on August 10. This aid included supplies provided by SEMA (Social Emergency Management Alliance), which proved helpful for both victims and the volunteer centers.

Although a month and a half has passed since the disaster, Civic Force will continue to assess needs and work to deliver assistance quickly.
