【Iwate Wildfire】 110 packs of strawberries delivered
It has been a week since the large-scale forest fire that occurred on February 26, 2025 in Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture. Firefighters, Self-Defense Forces, and other relevant personnel are working hard to extinguish the fire. It is estimated that approximately 10 square miles have burned and at least 84 buildings have been damaged.
Civic Force staff have been visiting evacuation centers and providing support since February 28. 56 packs of strawberries, 300 paper cups, and 42 pairs of socks were delivered to the Sanriku Community Center on March 4.
In response to concerns about the provision of healthy, balanced meals to evacuees, Civic Force has been delivering fresh food, focusing on nutrients that tend to be lacking in what’s provided at evacuation centers.
Based on the results of a needs survey, Civic Force also delivered 54 packs of strawberries, 300 paper cups, 200 bags, and 300 pairs of socks to Okkarai Elementary School.
A city official commented, "It is very helpful to have a certain amount of goods brought in after prior consultation like this. Supplies are delivered from the city and other groups, but there are many cases where it’s not enough, which is actually a bit of a problem."
As of March 5 in Ofunato City, eight evacuation centers and four welfare evacuation centers are open in the city with a total of 1,231 evacuees. In addition, 2,880 people have evacuated to the homes of friends and relatives.
Civic Force will continue to provide efficient and needs-based support in cooperation with ARROWS. We appreciate your continued support.
