【August 2025 Heavy Rain】 Needs Assessment and Support in Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto
Record-breaking rainfall in August 2025 caused widespread damage, including landslides and flooding, across Kagoshima's Kirishima City, and parts of Kumamoto, Fukuoka, and Yamaguchi Prefectures.
In response, Civic Force deployed two staff members from Saga to Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto, on August 20. They conducted a needs assessment at local volunteer centers, evacuation shelters, and affected areas, and delivered 90 bottles of water.

The Yatsushiro City Disaster Volunteer Center was established on August 13 to assist with cleanup and recovery efforts. While the assessment is still ongoing and affected areas are not fully accessible, resident needs are expected to increase. There is a growing demand for essential equipment such as high-pressure washers, blowers for drying, and light trucks for transporting equipment and debris, as many homes have been flooded up to the floor level.
Some residents have been living in shelters for over a month, underscoring the urgent need for assistance with mobility and improving living conditions.

Civic Force will continue to monitor the situation on the ground, providing swift and necessary support, including aid at evacuation shelters.
