【Kumamoto Earthquake 2026】Next-Gen Folding Beds from Taiwan Earthquake Installed in Evacuation Centers
We have received an outpouring of support from many individuals and groups, and this time, the Taiwanese organization, Love and Progress Firefighting Public Welfare Association (LPFPWA) , has donated 5 million yen, along with 100 folding beds, 40 pop-up partitions, and 25 folding tables. These items arrived at Kumamoto Airport today, and some of them have been delivered to evacuation centers in Hikawa Town and Yatsushiro City.

With Mr. Jin (third from the left), a director of LFPFWA and other supporters.
The donated items are all environmentally friendly products made from recycled plastic materials, and are designed to be compactly folded for storage and transport. Thanks to this support, Civic Force was able to set up shelters quickly and provide clean and stable sleeping arrangements.

Mr. Jin (pictured right below) helped the team with emergency relief activities in Hikawa Town, transporting supplies and assembling beds, and also supported us as one of the on-site volunteers. He told Civic Force, "We have been coordinating through training and other activities, but I am relieved that we were able to transport the supplies faster than expected this time. Japanese summers are really hot and tough, but let's do our best together."

The folding beds are the latest model, even lighter than the beds that played a vital role in evacuation centers in Hualien City during the earthquake off the coast of eastern Taiwan on April 3, 2024. Evacuation centers equipped with partitions and beds were set up in just three hours after the disaster, and this rapid response became a major topic of discussion in Japan as well.

The Hualien Earthquake and Partnership with Taiwan
Civic Force partners with Taiwanese disaster relief organizations through A-PAD, conducting joint training on a regular basis. Following the magnitude 7.7 Hualien earthquake in Taiwan on April 3, 2024, Civic Force provided relief items with local partner organizations. In response to the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquake, Civic Force delivered emergency tents to the affected areas with Taiwanese tent manufacturers.
About Love and Progress Firefighting Public Welfare Association (LPFPWA)
LPFPWA is the only non-profit organization in Taiwan dedicated to supporting communities through firefighting. They support rescue operations, the dissemination and distribution of specialized equipment, the testing and research and development of equipment and supplies used by rescue volunteers, and strengthen firefighting personnel safety and the skills and equipment used in rescue and firefighting operations.

Civic Force also conducted support activities in Yatsushiro City. The team delivered 25 tables, 40 partitions, and 5 boxes of portable toilets to an evacuation center.
In Yatsushiro City, water and power outages continue in the surrounding areas, and approximately 100 people are staying at Daiyo Community Center. The situation remains difficult in many ways, including water shortages, fatigue due to the heat, and unstable food and supply chains, and some people have been taken to a hospital due to illness. The supplies delivered this time will be used to protect the privacy of evacuees and to manage the evacuation center, but there are still many things that are needed, and the team will continue to assess what supplies and services are needed.
