One month has passed since the Kumamoto earthquake struck on July 28, 2026. The damage was extensive, with more than 40,000 homes damaged. Lifelines - power outages, water shortages, and transportation disruptions - are gradually being resolved, and construction of temporary housing has begun. However, the number of evacuees still exceeds 2,000, and their path to rebuild their lives will take a long time.

Civic Force began emergency relief activities the day after the disaster struck, focusing particularly on Hikawa Town, Yatsushiro City, and Uki City. The team has supported evacuation center management and a distribution of relief supplies with businesses. Since mid-August, the team has also started supporting people sheltering at home, whose situation is difficult to ascertain. In partnership with local stakeholders, Civic Force is working with local communities who have voluntarily set up and operate relief supply distribution centers., as well as with local governments and NPOs both domestically and internationally.

In Hikawa Town, where the consolidation of evacuation centers is underway in preparation for the reopening of elementary schools on September 1, volunteers are cleaning the schools and using cleaning equipment donated by Civic Force.

On the other hand, in some parts of Uki City, water was finally restored yesterday, and in some areas, toilets can now be used. The affected communities are still experiencing hardships and it is crucial to prevent disaster-related deaths.

Civic Force is exploring ways to effectively and efficiently utilize your support by taking a broad perspective, not just focusing on specific areas, by investigating areas that have not received assistance and understanding the support provided by other organizations.

Civic Force plans to work with local organizations through NPO Partner Projects and continue supporting the impacted communities.
