New Disaster Assistance Project "ARROWS"
In recent years, natural disasters are occurring more frequently and damages from earthquakes, typhoons, and rain-related disasters are on the rise. In disaster-affected areas, prompt assistance including life-saving work is needed, however, there are a lack of medical professionals and means to send them to affected areas.
Since its establishment in 2009, Civic Force has provided timely assistance for a number of natural disasters. In order to save more lives from large-scale disasters in the future, Civic Force launched a new emergency assistance project focusing on medical care called "ARROWS."
Since its establishment in 2009, Civic Force has provided timely assistance for a number of natural disasters. In order to save more lives from large-scale disasters in the future, Civic Force launched a new emergency assistance project focusing on medical care called "ARROWS."
ARROWS aims to reach disaster-affected areas quickly and provide life-saving operations to save more lives. Because ARROWS will send medical professionals and a search and rescue team, including rescue dogs, via helicopters and aircraft for emergency response, the name stands for "Airborne Rescue & Relief Operations With Search."
ARROWS is supported by Peace Winds Japan, the Asia-Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management Japan based in Saga, and Civic Force. ARROWS will also work with various partners depending on each situation. This initiative is also supported by an advisory board consisting of prominent leaders from the business, political, and medical sectors.
In the field, ARROWS is designed to collaborate with local municipalities, hospitals, and NPOs to provide timely and optimal assistance including medical and rescue operations, distribution of relief items, and evacuation center management. ARROWS not only provides relief assistance during emergencies, the group will also implement disaster risk reduction activities such as teaching life-saving skills to students, businesses, and other organizations.
