【2023 Heavy Rain】 Water Tanks and Tents Distributed for Reconstruction

Heavy rain continues to pour over Akita and other parts of the Tohoku region causing flooding and landslides. In addition to monitoring the extent of the damage and preparing for dispatch, Civic Force is continuing other activities in Saga and Fukuoka.

While today was clear, the weather forecast calls for heavy precipitation again next week, and restoration work is being carried out diligently in various places affected by the disaster. Civic Force delivered water tanks to Saga City Volunteer Center and they will be used in areas experiencing water outage due to landslides.

Additionally, Civic Force delivered construction tents to Saga Disaster Support Platform (SPF) in Karatsu. The tents were provided by Amazon during the training last month and stored in a warehouse in Saga.

Social Welfare Councils are working with volunteers to conduct needs assessments and construction work. They are also warning the residents to be cautious of heatstroke. At the request of the association, Civic Force delivered beverages to local social welfare offices in Saga City and Kurume City.

“Right now, we are mainly focused on removing the mud and cleaning up our homes. We have to think about how to restore them. The hot weather continues and beverages are running out. Thank you for this prompt assistance.”

Civic Force is also focusing on efforts to stockpile and manage relief supplies in order to implement needed assistance activities as soon as possible in the event of a disaster. The relief items distributed during this month’s operations have been taken out from a warehouse set up in Saga Women’s Junior College.

In June, Civic Force held a training session with Amazon on transporting goods. The team also ensures that the stockpile maintains adequate inventory, including drinking water, clothing, and emergency toilets, in the event of a disaster. In the wake of the recent floods, Civic Force shared the relief supplies list with aid organizations to maximize distribution.

It is expected that it will take a long time to recover from the damage. Civic Force will continue to provide support in Saga and Fukuoka.
