【Noto Peninsula Heavy Rain】 Emergency Period Continues in the Affected Areas
One month has passed since the record-breaking heavy rains that hit the Noto Peninsula. After the Noto Peninsula earthquake on New Year's Day, the Oku-Noto region, which was in the process of recovery and reconstruction, was hit again by large-scale flooding, with temporary housing also suffering from flood damage.
Many areas still have driftwood and soil remaining, but assessments have not progressed due to manpower shortages at local government levels, and the exact number of damaged buildings is unknown.
Through the online supply matching platform "GoodLinks," Civic Force is supporting disaster victims and volunteers who continue to work removing mud and cleaning up in Wajima City, Suzu City, Noto Town, and other areas.
Civic Force so far has delivered 508 relief supplies to eight organizations including clothing, masks, blankets, hygiene items, tarp, and cleaning supplies.
"We are using local cat shelters as distribution hubs to distribute the items not only to disaster victims with pets, but also to elderly people who cannot come to community centers to pick up supplies. Right now, there is a need for cold weather clothing and underwear for people who cannot wash their clothes," a partner organization shared.
In parallel with providing material support, Civic Force has also launched its own recovery support program, a NPO Partner Project. In addition to the current NPO Partner Projects with four organizations, Civic Force is also financially supporting organizations working hard to restore areas affected by the heavy rains. In September, the Project supported the delivery of relief supplies to those living in evacuation centers, temporary housing, and at home in Wajima City, Suzu City, and Noto Town.
Civic Force plans to start additional NPO Partner Projects with organizations that support the reconstruction with activities such as removing floors and walls from damaged homes and drying out spaces under the floorboards.
