Over the weekend, Civic Force visited evacuation centers in Ofunato City, delivering supplies in response to requests from those managing the centers and evacuees. On July 9, we delivered 150 pairs of socks (Naigai) and 120 pieces of long-sleeved shirts and underwear (Senshukai), provided by SEMA to the Sanriku Community Center evacuation shelter. Since the strawberries delivered last week were well-received, we also delivered another 64 packs of fresh strawberries.

Many individuals were forced into sudden evacuation, some arriving at shelters with only the clothes on their backs. While receiving support, they face an unfamiliar environment where daily stress mounts. Significant anxiety persists, as sirens blare day and night and forest fire smoke remains visible through evacuation center windows. Being able to wear clean clothes, eat fresh fruit, and regain even a single pre-disaster normalcy is a crucial step in preventing disaster-related deaths.

Based on our past support experience, we prioritize more than just delivering relief supplies. Our members, both local and external, are diligently working to carefully listen to the needs of affected individuals and respond to their requests promptly and accurately.

On March 10, Ofunato City lifted evacuation orders for the entire Ayasato district of Sanriku-cho and three districts of Akasaki-cho. With this, elementary school classes in Ofunato City have resumed. While many express relief, a city survey has confirmed damage to over 210 buildings. Ofunato City will continue to operate evacuation centers for affected residents for the time being and is arranging for the construction of temporary housing and deemed temporary housing using private apartments.

Civic Force will continue to assess the needs of those affected in Ofunato City and deliver essential support to where it's needed, in a timely manner.
